SKIMS Medical College Bemina Suspends Five Students, Interns Over Ragging

Srinagar, Oct 2: KNT: The SKIMS Medical College Hospital, Bemina has suspended five MBBS students and interns for one week and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on each following their reported involvement in a ragging incident at the institution.

An order issued by the Principal, SKIMS Medical College Bemina, states that the students/interns were involved in an incident of ragging which constituted a “gross violation” of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Anti-Ragging Regulations.

Those suspended include Shubham Verma and Sunil Verma from Batch 2023, Shahdev from Batch 2024, and interns Rupal Suntal and Lavish Sharma from Batch 2021.

The action was taken on the recommendation of the institution’s Anti-Ragging Committee. The five students/interns have been suspended from classes and other academic and internship activities for one week.

Besides the suspension, a fine of ₹10,000 has been imposed on each student/intern, with the amount to be deposited in the prescribed CD-10 account. The order directs them to submit the payment slip to the Academic Section within five days of issuance of the order.

The parents or guardians of all five students/interns have also been directed to accompany their wards and appear before the Anti-Ragging Committee, for further disciplinary proceedings.

The institution has warned that failure to comply with the directions may invite further disciplinary action under the applicable UGC Anti-Ragging Regulations and institutional rules.

The order also directs the concerned authorities to withhold the stipend of the interns during the period of suspension, as per applicable rules. [KNT]
