Srinagar, June 19, KNT: The residence of a Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) officer who was felicitated earlier this year for distinguished and meritorious public service came under the scanner of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday following a bribery trap involving two municipal employees.
The CBI conducted searches at the residence of Engineer Sajad Kawoosa, Executive Engineer and In-Charge Superintending Engineer of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, after allegedly trapping two employees while accepting a bribe of ₹5,000.
Sources said the agency caught Sajad Hussain Bhat, In-Charge Dealing Assistant, and Javid Ahmad Ganie, a consolidated worker, both posted in the office of the Executive Engineer, Left River Works Division (LRWD) of the SMC, allegedly while accepting the bribe amount.

Following the trap, CBI teams carried out searches at Kawoosa’s residence in the Bhagat Barzulla area of Srinagar as part of the ongoing investigation.
Sources familiar with the probe alleged that the bribe money was purportedly intended to be channelled to the officer, a claim that remains subject to investigation.
The development has generated considerable interest in official circles as Er. Kawoosa was honoured by the District Administration Srinagar earlier this year for rendering distinguished and meritorious services in public administration and service delivery.
Officials said the investigation is continuing and further details are awaited. [KNT]
