SMC Takes Over Construction of J&K’s First Modern Mechanized Abattoir at Allochi Bagh

Srinagar, August 1, KNT: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has taken over the construction of Jammu and Kashmir’s first modern mechanized abattoir at Allochi Bagh, bringing an end to years of administrative delays and changes in the executing agency.
The project, aimed at modernizing the slaughtering and meat processing system in the city, has now been floated under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode. According to SMC Commissioner Faz Lul Haseeb, the facility is expected to be completed within two years.
Designed to process around 5,000 sheep and goats daily, the abattoir will feature fully mechanized slaughtering lines, scientifically designed lairage areas, carcass dressing units, chilling and cold storage facilities, besides infrastructure for by-product processing.
Officials said the project also incorporates an advanced bio-digestion system integrated with a modern Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) to ensure scientific treatment of waste and recycling of wastewater for non-potable purposes, in line with environmental standards.
The civic body said the project is expected to improve hygiene standards, strengthen sustainable waste management practices and provide a modern infrastructure for the livestock sector in Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
