Srinagar, March 29, KNT: Rain in plains and snowfall in higher reaches, accompanied by strong winds of 40–50 km/h, are likely to occur across Jammu and Kashmir till March 30, affecting normal life and travel, officials said.
The ongoing weather system has led to a sharp dip in temperatures and increased risk of landslides and shooting stones, particularly along vulnerable highway stretches.
The situation is significant as it impacts transport, agriculture and daily activities across the region, especially in hilly areas prone to disruptions.
Officials said that after March 30, weather conditions are expected to improve, although intermittent light rain and snow may continue till April 4.
“Rain and snow will persist till March 30 with strong winds. Thereafter, improvement is expected, though light spells may continue,” an official said.
The advisory comes amid recent incidents of landslides and road blockades, raising concerns for commuters travelling on key routes including the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway.
Farmers have been advised to take precautionary measures to protect crops and orchards from potential damage caused by gusty winds and rainfall.
Travellers, particularly those heading towards higher reaches, have been urged to avoid unnecessary movement and remain updated on weather and road conditions. [KNT]
