Srinagar, May 23, KNT: National Conference Member of Parliament Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Saturday said the latest developments in Ladakh reaffirm the need for political resolve and genuine representation to address people’s aspirations.
While talking to reporters, Ruhullah said that people’s aspirations cannot be addressed through silence but require “political resolve and honest representation.”
Referring to recent developments in Ladakh, he said the region has now been promised safeguards relating to land, jobs, culture and local identity, which, according to him, reflect protections long demanded by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Today’s developments in Ladakh reaffirm what I have long maintained: people’s aspirations cannot be addressed through silence, but through political resolve and honest representation,” Ruhullah said.
He said the assurances made to Ladakh mirror demands consistently raised in Jammu and Kashmir regarding protection of land rights, employment opportunities, cultural identity and local interests.
“Ladakh has now been promised safeguards for land, jobs, culture, and local identity, exactly the kind of protections people of J&K have been demanding,” he said.
Raising a political question over the use of the public mandate in Jammu and Kashmir, the parliamentarian said people had delivered a clear verdict seeking these protections.
“The people of Jammu & Kashmir gave a clear mandate for these rights. The question is: when will that mandate be used for what it was truly given?” Ruhullah said. [KNT]
