Jammu, April 1, KNT: Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly House Committee probing alleged irregularities in the Jal Jeevan Mission, Hasnain Masoodi, has reportedly sought a three-month extension to submit the panel’s report, sources said.

Masoodi was scheduled to present the report in the Assembly during the ongoing session, but has requested additional time citing the need for a comprehensive examination, sources added.

The development assumes significance as the report was expected to outline findings on alleged irregularities in the implementation of the centrally sponsored rural water supply scheme.

Sources said the committee required more time due to the volume of records and technical details involved in the probe.

The delay is likely to defer the submission of the report to a subsequent session of the Assembly.

The House Committee, headed by Masoodi, has been examining various aspects of the Jal Jeevan Mission including execution, financial management and adherence to guidelines.

Officials familiar with the proceedings said the panel had sought extensive documentation from the concerned department as part of its investigation.

The Jal Jeevan Mission has been under scrutiny in Jammu and Kashmir following concerns raised by legislators over implementation gaps and alleged irregularities.

The House Committee was constituted last year by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather after members flagged the issue in the Assembly.

The panel held its first meeting in May 2025 and has since been reviewing records and inputs from officials.

The Jal Jeevan Mission, launched in 2019, aims to provide functional household tap connections to all rural households, and has seen significant financial allocation in Jammu and Kashmir.

The outcome of the committee’s report is expected to be crucial in determining accountability and shaping further action on the scheme. [KNT]
