Jammu, May 1, KNT: An under-construction bridge collapsed near a petrol pump in the Bantalab area of Jammu on Friday, trapping several labourers under debris and triggering a large-scale rescue operation.
Officials said the structure caved in while work was underway, leaving multiple workers trapped beneath the rubble. Initial reports suggested casualties, but there was no official confirmation of deaths at the time of filing this report.
Rescue teams comprising police, civil administration, and disaster response units rushed to the site and launched efforts to clear debris using heavy machinery.
Some workers were reportedly pulled out alive, while operations continued to locate others believed to be trapped.
Authorities said the exact number of persons affected and the cause of the collapse would be ascertained after completion of rescue efforts.
The incident has raised concerns over safety protocols at construction sites, particularly where work is carried out under active structural load.
Further details were awaited. [KNT] [KNT]
