Jammu, Feb 25, KNT: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chowdary on Wednesday alleged misuse of authority after the Anti-Corruption Bureau conducted a raid at the residence of his brother, a senior police officer, in Jammu.

The ACB carried out searches at the Santokh Vihar locality in the Talo Kalo Chak area, where Vijay Singh Chowdary resides. The development has sparked political and administrative debate, with the Deputy Chief Minister terming the action a “vendetta.”

Addressing reporters, Surinder Chowdary claimed that certain police officers were attempting to block his brother’s promotion and had influenced the decision to initiate the raid. He said he did not wish to involve the Lieutenant Governor in the controversy but asserted that the action had been carried out at the insistence of some officers within the police establishment.

“My brother has fought against militants and criminals and everyone knows about his integrity and conviction,” the Deputy Chief Minister said, adding that the raid reflected alleged misuse and abuse of power. He expressed confidence that the ACB teams would not find any incriminating material.

Chowdary said the development could have a demoralising impact on the force, claiming that younger officers might feel discouraged if senior officers were subjected to what he described as humiliation.  [KNT]
