Security Intensified at Jammu Railway Station Ahead of Amarnath Yatra, Massive Checking Drive Conducted

Jammu, June 18, KNT: With the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra approaching and summer travel witnessing a substantial surge in passenger traffic, security agencies and railway authorities on Thursday conducted an extensive joint checking and security audit at Jammu Railway Station, one of the principal transit hubs for pilgrims and tourists arriving in Jammu and Kashmir.
The operation was jointly carried out by the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF) and ticket-checking staff of the Commercial Department of Northern Railway’s Jammu Division.
Officials said the exercise was aimed at strengthening security arrangements and ensuring smooth passenger movement ahead of the pilgrimage season, during which lakhs of pilgrims and tourists are expected to pass through the station.
During the operation, security personnel conducted meticulous searches of arriving and departing trains, platforms, waiting halls, foot-over bridges, parking areas and other vulnerable locations within the station premises. Special attention was paid to suspicious baggage, unattended articles and other potential security concerns.
Simultaneously, ticket-checking teams carried out inspections against unauthorized travel and verified passenger credentials to ensure compliance with railway regulations.
Passengers were also sensitized about emergency helpline numbers and advised to immediately report any suspicious person, object or activity to railway security personnel.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Jammu, Uchit Singhal, said passenger footfall at Jammu Railway Station increases significantly during summer vacations and the Amarnath Yatra period, making passenger safety and convenience the foremost priority of the railway administration.
He said the coordinated exercise was intended to ensure a secure, seamless and hassle-free travel experience for pilgrims and tourists and urged passengers to travel with valid tickets and identity documents.
Railway authorities said elaborate arrangements relating to security, cleanliness and passenger facilitation have been put in place and will remain operational throughout the pilgrimage season. [KNT]
