Ladakh posts Deputy Commissioners a day after creation of new districts

Leh, April 28, KNT: A day after the creation of new districts in Ladakh, the Union Territory administration has issued orders assigning Deputy Commissioners to the newly carved administrative units, marking a key step in operationalizing the reorganization.

According to an order issued by the General Administration Department, several officers have been transferred and given additional charge to head the newly formed districts.

Nitish Rajora (IAS), who is currently serving as Commissioner, State Taxes, and holding additional charges of Excise, Accounts and Treasuries, and Housing and Urban Local Bodies, has been posted as Deputy Commissioner Changthang.

Mukil Beniwal has been assigned as Deputy Commissioner Nubra, while Omkar Rajendra Gundge (IAS), previously SDM Zanskar, has been posted as Deputy Commissioner Zanskar.

Smt. Kunzes Angmo (JKAS), Director Social Welfare Department, has been posted as Deputy Commissioner Sham, and Imtiyaz Kacho (JKAS), Director School Education, has been assigned as Deputy Commissioner Drass.

The order further states that Nitish Rajora will continue to hold the charge of Commissioner, State Taxes and Excise till May 31, 2026.

In subsequent adjustments, Romil Singh Donk (IAS), Deputy Commissioner Leh, will hold additional charge of Director Housing and Urban Local Bodies as well as Commissioner, State Taxes and Excise with effect from June 1, 2026.

Sajjad Qadri (JKAS), Director Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, has been given additional charge of Director School Education.

Additionally, Zahida Bano (JKAS) has been transferred and posted as Director Social and Tribal Welfare, while Smt. Kaneez Fatima, Joint Director Finance, will hold additional charge of Director Accounts and Treasuries.

The order, issued in the interest of administration, takes immediate effect as the UT administration moves to streamline governance structures following the expansion of districts. [KNT]
