Jammu, March 30, KNT: National Conference (NC) MLA Tanvir Sadiq on Monday sought the release of youth arrested following protests linked to the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, raising the matter in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.

The intervention comes amid continued concerns over the detention of several youths, with political leaders calling for a review of cases on humanitarian grounds.

Sadiq raised the issue in the House, urging the Speaker and the Leader of the House to take up the matter with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for consideration of the detainees’ release.

He said the youth were arrested in the aftermath of protests that broke out across parts of Kashmir following reports of the killing of Ayatollah Khamenei.

Pertinently, a delegation of leaders, including Sadiq, had earlier met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and sought a review of cases involving detained youth.

However, with no significant progress reported on their release, the issue was again raised in the Assembly, indicating growing concern within political circles.

Sadiq emphasized that prolonged detention of youth could have wider social implications and called for a balanced approach that takes into account both law and humanitarian considerations. [KNT]
