Teenager Drowns While Bathing in Pond in Kupwara’s Kandi Khass

Kupwara, May 17, KNT: A 19-year-old youth died after drowning in a pond in the Kandi Khass area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday, officials said.

The deceased was identified as Israr Ahmad Kumar,  son of Ghulam Nabi Kumar, a resident of Kandi Khass. He was a Class 12 student.

Officials said the youth drowned while bathing in a pond in the village. Locals and rescuers retrieved him from the water and immediately shifted him to the Government Medical College (GMC), Handwara, for treatment.

However, doctors at the hospital declared him dead on arrival, officials said.

The incident has caused grief in the area, with residents expressing shock over the death of the teenager.

Police initiated necessary legal and medico-legal formalities in the matter. [KNT]
