Thousands Join Peaceful Ashura Processions Across Budgam

Budgam, June 26, KNT: Thousands of mourners participated in Ashura processions held across Budgam district on Friday to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) and the sacrifices of Karbala, with the observances passing off peacefully amid elaborate arrangements made by the district administration.

Deputy Commissioner Budgam Athar Aamir Khan and Senior Superintendent of Police Budgam Hari Prasad K.K. visited various parts of the district to monitor the arrangements and assess the security and civic measures put in place for the occasion.

The officers joined mourners during the procession from Mirgund to Budgam and inspected procession routes, congregation points and public service facilities. They were accompanied by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Additional Superintendent of Police, Chief Planning Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Sub-Divisional Police Officers, Tehsildars, Station House Officers and other district officials.

The administration had put in place extensive arrangements, including security deployment, traffic regulation, parking facilities, uninterrupted electricity and drinking water supply, healthcare and emergency medical services, sanitation measures and other essential public amenities to facilitate the smooth conduct of the Ashura processions.

During their visit, the Deputy Commissioner and SSP interacted with mourners and volunteers, reviewed the arrangements on the ground and appreciated the cooperation extended by the public in maintaining peace and order throughout the observances. They also served drinking water and refreshments to mourners at various locations along the procession routes.

The district administration said the peaceful conduct of the Ashura processions reflected the coordinated efforts of civil administration, police, other departments, volunteers and the public. [KNT]
