Kupwara, July 13, KNT: Keran, the picturesque border town in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, is witnessing an unprecedented tourism boom, with a record influx of visitors from different parts of the country transforming the once-remote destination into one of the Valley’s fastest-growing tourist hotspots.

The sharp rise in tourist arrivals has resulted in hotels and homestays operating at near-full occupancy, bringing a significant economic boost to the region. Local residents associated with tourism, including hotel owners, homestay operators, transporters, guides and shopkeepers, say the surge has substantially improved business and generated new livelihood opportunities.

Nestled along the banks of the Kishanganga River near the Line of Control, Keran has increasingly emerged as a preferred destination for travellers seeking offbeat experiences, pristine landscapes and rural hospitality away from conventional tourist circuits.

Local stakeholders said the growing tourist interest has encouraged more families to establish homestays and expand tourism-related services, helping strengthen the village’s economy while showcasing the area’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Locals expressed hope that continued improvements in infrastructure, road connectivity and tourism facilities would sustain the momentum and further establish Keran as a premier border tourism destination in Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
