Udhampur, June 19, KNT: Traffic movement on the strategic Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was disrupted in Udhampur district on Friday after a speeding truck overturned on the roadway, while a separate accident involving a Thar vehicle was also reported from the area.
Officials said the truck turned turtle after the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, resulting in temporary disruption of vehicular movement on the highway. While the driver escaped unhurt, the truck and the goods being transported suffered considerable damage.
Traffic authorities and local police rushed to the spot and initiated measures to clear the affected stretch and restore normal movement of vehicles.
In another incident in the same district, a Thar jeep crashed into a road divider after the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.
Officials said the occupants of the Thar escaped without injuries despite the impact of the collision. However, the vehicle sustained damage in the accident.
The twin mishaps caused brief inconvenience to commuters and highlighted concerns over speeding and road safety on busy highway stretches.
Police have taken cognizance of both incidents and are examining the circumstances that led to the accidents. [KNT]
