Dialogue Only Way Forward Between India, Pakistan: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq

Srinagar, June 30, KNT: Mirwaiz Kashmir Molvi Muhammad Umar Farooq on Tuesday said dialogue remains the only viable means of resolving issues between India and Pakistan, asserting that any effort aimed at reducing tensions and promoting peace should be welcomed.
Speaking to reporters, the Mirwaiz said the recent decision of the United States and Iran to return to the negotiating table despite heightened tensions demonstrates that dialogue remains the most effective path to resolving disputes.
“It is a positive development that both the United States and Iran are engaging in dialogue. If they can return to the negotiating table after escalation, why can’t India and Pakistan?” he said.
The Mirwaiz maintained that lasting peace and friendship between India and Pakistan would serve the interests of the people of the region and reiterated that the Kashmir leadership would always welcome initiatives aimed at improving relations between the two neighboring countries.
He said dialogue, rather than confrontation, offers the best opportunity for addressing outstanding issues and creating an atmosphere conducive to peace. [KNT]
