Vinai Kumar Saxena Sworn In as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vows Development and Jobs

Leh, March 13, KNT: Vinai Kumar Saxena was sworn in as the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh on Friday, with Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Justice Arun Palli administering the oath of office.
The oath ceremony was held in Leh in the presence of senior officials, public representatives and invited guests.
Saxena assumes charge as the administrative head of the Union Territory at a time when Ladakh continues to focus on infrastructure development, employment generation and sustainable tourism.
Following the ceremony, Saxena expressed gratitude to President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for entrusting him with the responsibility of serving Ladakh and its people.
He said the opportunity to serve the Union Territory was both an honour and a responsibility.
“I thank the Hon’ble President, the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the Hon’ble Home Minister for giving me the opportunity to serve Ladakh and its people,” Saxena said.
The new Lieutenant Governor said his administration would prioritise development while maintaining active engagement with citizens and stakeholders across the Union Territory.
He said improving civic amenities for residents would remain a key focus of the administration.
Providing adequate facilities related to public health, transport, education and sanitation would be taken up on priority, he said.
Saxena also emphasised the importance of maintaining environmental sustainability in the ecologically sensitive Himalayan region.
The new Lieutenant Governor said that Ladakh’s development strategy would balance economic growth with the protection of its fragile ecosystem.
He also stressed the need to create employment opportunities for local youth.
“Creating local employment and job opportunities while positioning Ladakh as one of the world’s most sought-after tourist destinations will remain a focus area,” he said.
Officials said the administration would work towards strengthening infrastructure and public services while expanding tourism and economic activities in the region.
Ladakh, which was carved out as a separate Union Territory in August 2019 following the reorganisation of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir, has since been focusing on governance reforms and development initiatives.
The Lieutenant Governor serves as the chief administrative authority of the Union Territory and oversees policy implementation, governance and development programmes in the region. [KNT]
