
Pulwama, June 2, KNT: A bear spotted in Aligund village of Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district was successfully tranquilized and captured by the Wildlife Department on Tuesday after residents alerted authorities about its presence.
The sighting had triggered concern among villagers, prompting immediate intervention by the Wildlife Department.
According to local sources, the animal was found living inside a cave in the area. Following the alert, a Wildlife Department team reached the spot and launched an operation to safely capture the bear.
Officials said the bear was tranquilized before being secured by the rescue team.
After its capture, the animal was shifted to a suitable natural habitat away from human habitation to prevent any potential human-wildlife conflict.
Locals appreciated the timely response of the Wildlife Department, saying the operation helped avert any possible threat to people living in the area.
Wildlife officials have urged residents living near forest fringes to immediately inform authorities about sightings of wild animals and avoid approaching them. [KNT]
