Srinagar, April 27, KNT: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said a 20-coach train will begin operations on the Jammu–Srinagar route from April 30, describing it as a step that could boost tourism and improve connectivity in the region.

Speaking to reporters, Abdullah said the increase in coach capacity—from around eight coaches earlier to 20—would significantly enhance passenger carrying capability.

“It will help tourism. This will be a 20-bogie train. We want the capacity and frequency of the train to be increased,” he said.

The Chief Minister indicated that the government is looking to further expand both the frequency of services and overall capacity on the route in the coming period.

He added that more details regarding future plans and developments related to the rail service would be shared during a function scheduled on April 30.

The expansion in rail capacity is expected to ease travel demand and support movement of tourists and locals across the Jammu–Srinagar corridor. [KNT]
