Jammu, July 25, KNT: The annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra resumed on Saturday after a six-day suspension caused by adverse weather conditions, with pilgrims being allowed to proceed only through the Baltal route, while the traditional Pahalgam route remains closed.
Officials said the 18th batch of 6,269 pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu early Saturday for the Baltal base camp in a convoy of 223 vehicles under stringent security arrangements.
The pilgrimage, which had been suspended due to persistent rainfall and weather-related disruptions, has only partially resumed. Authorities have not yet restored movement through the Pahalgam route, where restoration work and safety assessments are still underway following damage caused by inclement weather.
Officials said the decision to keep the Pahalgam axis closed has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of pilgrims. The route will be reopened only after the track is declared safe for movement.
Authorities have advised pilgrims to follow official advisories and cooperate with security and civil administration personnel during the ongoing Yatra. [KNT]
