Jammu, August 3, KNT: Traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) was suspended from both ends on Monday evening following heavy rainfall and slippery road conditions at the Dawal Slide near Dawal Bridge in Udhampur district, officials said.

The decision to halt traffic was taken as continuous rainfall rendered the affected stretch unsafe for vehicular movement, with road conditions deteriorating due to slush and the possibility of further landslides.

Officials said restoration work has been taken up at the affected site, with road clearance teams and machinery engaged in removing debris and restoring the highway at the earliest.

The authorities have advised commuters to avoid travelling on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway until further notice and to follow official traffic advisories before planning their journey. [KNT]
