Srinagar, August 5, KNT: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A in 2019 ended discrimination in Jammu and Kashmir and ushered in a new era of social justice and inclusive development.

In a statement issued on the sixth anniversary of the constitutional changes, the Lieutenant Governor said the decision taken under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi had transformed Jammu and Kashmir by ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all sections of society.

Sinha said the Union Territory was progressing with renewed confidence and witnessing sustained peace, prosperity and development.

His remarks came amid contrasting political narratives over August 5, with the BJP describing the constitutional changes as a historic milestone while several opposition parties observed the day as “Black Day” and reiterated their demand for the restoration of statehood and constitutional safeguards. [KNT]
