Ramban, August 7, KNT: A major security operation was launched in Ramban district on Friday after the driver of a suspicious Scorpio allegedly broke through a police checkpoint at Chanderkote and sped towards the Nashri area, prompting security forces to initiate a large-scale search.

Officials said police personnel stationed at the checkpoint signalled the vehicle to stop for inspection, but the driver allegedly ignored the directions and fled, forcing the police to fire warning shots in an attempt to intercept the vehicle.

Following the incident, police, assisted by personnel of the CRPF and the Army, launched a coordinated search operation across the area to trace the vehicle and its occupants.

The Scorpio was later located and seized near Dalwas, officials said, adding that a thorough investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances under which the vehicle breached the security checkpoint and to determine the identity and motive of those involved.

Security agencies have intensified searches in the area as part of the ongoing investigation. [KNT]
