NC Holds Deliberations on Post-2019 Political Landscape With Prof. Radha Kumar, Air Vice Marshal Kapil Kak
Srinagar, August 8, KNT: National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Friday reiterated his party’s demand for the restoration of full powers to the elected government of Jammu and Kashmir, saying the National Conference would continue its democratic struggle for the rights of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
The remarks came during a meeting chaired by Dr. Abdullah at the party headquarters, Nawa-e-Subah, in Srinagar, which was attended by senior National Conference leaders, former Government of India interlocutor Prof. Radha Kumar, former Air Vice Marshal Kapil Kak and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) leader Sajjad Kargili.
The meeting focused on the political developments and evolving situation in Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganization of the erstwhile state in August 2019.
During the interaction, Prof. Radha Kumar read excerpts from her book ‘Paradise at War’ and shared her perspectives on the constitutional and political developments in Jammu and Kashmir. The participants also discussed the long-term political and administrative implications of the post-2019 changes.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Abdullah said the elected government must be allowed to exercise its constitutional authority without curtailment, asserting that democratic institutions can function effectively only when elected representatives are empowered to govern.
He reiterated that the National Conference would continue to pursue, through democratic and constitutional means, the restoration of the rights which, according to the party, were taken away from the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. [KNT]
