Anantnag, Aug 12, KNT: With South Kashmir witnessing two recent attacks in which a policeman was killed in Anantnag and two migrant workers were shot dead in Kulgam, security preparedness across the region has come under heightened focus ahead of Independence Day.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir Range, on Wednesday reviewed security arrangements at the District Police Office in Anantnag, with particular emphasis on measures required to maintain vigilance during the run-up to Aug 15.

The review focused on area domination, surveillance, naka checking and the security of vital installations. The DIG directed heightened alertness across South Kashmir and stressed the need for close monitoring and sustained preventive measures.

The latest directions are aimed at ensuring that security arrangements remain robust at sensitive locations and that movement and activities are closely monitored during the period leading up to Aug 15.

Area domination and naka checking have been placed among the key components of the security preparedness, alongside surveillance and protection of vital installations.

The DIG’s review at Anantnag comes as police intensify security preparedness across South Kashmir, where recent attacks have added to the security concerns ahead of the national event. [KNT]
