Arms Cache Recovered During Search Operation in Shopian Orchard
Shopian, Aug 31, KNT: Security forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation in an orchard at Naikpora Meemander area of Shopian district on Monday, officials said.
The recovery was made during a cordon and search operation jointly conducted by 44 Rashtriya Rifles, SOG Shopian and 14 Battalion CRPF.
According to officials, the search operation led to the discovery of a suspected hideout in an orchard associated with Rayees Ahmad Shah, a resident of Naik Mohalla, Meemander.
The recovered items include one AK-47 rifle, two AK-47 magazines, 60 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, one pistol, six rounds of 9mm ammunition and one hand grenade.
No person has been arrested in connection with the recovery so far, while a case is yet to be formally registered.
The recovery has prompted further searches in the area as security agencies work to ascertain the origin and intended use of the arms and ammunition. [KNT]
