Kulgam, Sep 8, KNT: Government Girls Higher Secondary School Katrusoo in South Kashmir’s Kulgam, established in 2010, continues to function without formally created teaching and non-teaching posts, even as around 200 students are currently enrolled in the institution.

The school has continued to record strong academic performance despite the absence of sanctioned posts. In 2024, the institution secured ninth position in the Kashmir Division and stood first in Kulgam district, according to the information available.

The school has Higher Secondary status and caters to students of Classes XI and XII. However, parents and locals told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the institution does not have the corresponding lecturer-level posts for teaching the Higher Secondary classes, with teachers being engaged to teach students of Classes XI and XII.

Parents and locals have urged the authorities to formally create the required teaching and non-teaching posts so that the institution has adequate sanctioned manpower to cater to its students.

They also questioned the continuation of Higher Secondary status without corresponding post creation and alleged that the upgrade was carried out due to political considerations. The allegation could not be independently verified.

The school, according to locals was established in 2010 and has since continued to function with around 200 students despite the absence of formally created posts. [KNT]
