Khair Smugglers Open Fire on Forest Department Team in Hiranagar

Hiranagar, Sep 10, KNT: Khair smugglers allegedly opened fire on a Forest Department team in the Hiranagar area during the intervening night, firing around 10 to 15 rounds, officials said.

The Forest Department team had reportedly gone to the area in connection with suspected illegal Khair timber activity when the smugglers opened fire.

No member of the Forest Department team was injured in the incident, officials said.

The smugglers, taking advantage of the darkness, fled from the spot. During their escape, they abandoned two vehicles, which were subsequently seized by the Forest Department, officials said.

A case has been registered in connection with the incident, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the persons involved.
