Srinagar, Sep 29 KNT: Congress MLA Nizamuddin Bhat on Tuesday said jingoism, shouting and aggressive posturing had increasingly become a trend in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, with such behaviour appearing to be seen as the only way to get things done.
Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly, Bhat said the autumn session was intended to ensure that proceedings moved calmly and smoothly, allowing legislators to raise public issues and hold the government accountable.
He said raising such issues helps foster public awareness and reassures people that their elected representatives are advocating for them effectively.
Bhat, however, said significant uproar over certain matters resulted in considerable loss of the House’s time.
Despite the disruptions, he said the Speaker tried to keep the House functioning and ensure that proceedings continued. [KNT]
