Srinagar, Oct 21, KNT: The All India Medical Students’ Association (AIMSA) has called off the strike by MBBS and BDS interns across Jammu and Kashmir following the government’s assurance on the hike in monthly stipends.

AIMSA expressed gratitude to political leaders, bureaucrats and all those who supported the interns during their agitation for an increase in stipend.

The association described the decision as a collective achievement, crediting the interns for raising their voices and remaining united throughout the struggle.

The strike had been centred on the demand for a substantial increase in the monthly stipend paid to medical interns in the Union Territory. The government has since issued a formal order raising the monthly stipend for MBBS and BDS interns, including Foreign Medical Graduates, from Rs 12,300 to Rs 25,000, with effect from October 1, 2026.

With the decision to call off the strike, the interns’ agitation over the stipend issue has come to an end, following the government’s move to formalise the hike. [KNT]
