Arab-Led Parties Make Historic Gains in Israeli Election, Projected to Win 19 Seats for First Time
Arab-led parties in Israel have made a historic electoral breakthrough, with preliminary results projecting them to win a combined 19 seats in the 120-member Knesset, the highest representation ever recorded for Arab-led parties in the Israeli parliament.
With around 90 per cent of the votes counted, the Joint List was projected to secure 12 seats, while Ra’am (United Arab List) was projected to win seven, according to Israeli media reports.
The projected tally surpasses the previous high of 15 seats won by Arab-led parties in the 2020 election. The results remain provisional as vote counting continues.
The gains could give the Arab-led parties potential leverage in government formation, although major political blocs have been reluctant to include them in a governing coalition. [KNT]
