Peaceful Polling Recorded Across 18 Assembly Segments
High Voter Turnout Reported in Several Constituencies

Srinagar, Dec 2, KNT: Polling for 18 Assembly segments in Jammu and Kashmir concluded peacefully on Tuesday, with authorities reporting no major untoward incident from any part of the State.
People exercised their franchise amid tight security arrangements in Kupwara, Kulgam, Reasi, Poonch and Udhampur districts. Large contingents of police and paramilitary forces were deployed at sensitive and hyper-sensitive polling stations, particularly in Kupwara and Kulgam districts.
A police official told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that minor disturbance was reported from the Qaimoh area of Kulgam constituency, where some youth allegedly pelted stones at police and CRPF personnel during brisk polling. The situation, he said, was brought under control promptly and the polling process continued without disruption.
Reports indicated significant voter participation in constituencies such as Noorabad, Home Shali Bugh, Devsar and Kulgam, though isolated pockets including Bogam and Parnew recorded low turnout.
In Kupwara district, voters arrived early at polling stations in Lolab, Handwara, Langate and Kupwara constituencies. Women voters were seen in large numbers, forming long queues outside several polling stations. Many voters cited employment, road connectivity, electricity and drinking water as key issues influencing their choice.
In areas including Drugmulla, Trehgam and Shumnag, polling stations witnessed steady participation throughout the day. Some voters expressed that participation in the electoral process was aimed at addressing local grievances rather than taking a political position on broader issues.
Officials said the voting process remained largely smooth across the 18 segments, with security forces maintaining vigil to ensure orderly conduct of polling. [KNT]
