Mendhar, Feb 22, KNT: A virtual review meeting chaired by Cabinet Minister Javed Rana on Sunday assessed the pace and execution of ongoing development works under the PWD Division Mendhar, with focus on road connectivity, drainage infrastructure and projects funded under multiple schemes.

Officials including the Chief Engineer PW R&B Pir Panjal and the Executive Engineer Mendhar briefed the Minister on works being carried out under SAASCI, infrastructure linked to EMRS, road projects financed through the UT Capex Budget and NABARD, and the drainage system in Mendhar town.

Sources present in the meeting indicated that several projects are facing execution challenges, particularly in remote pockets where terrain and logistical constraints have slowed progress. While officers reported ongoing work, emphasis was laid on meeting deadlines and improving field-level monitoring.

The drainage project in Mendhar town also came under review, with directions issued for ensuring functional and durable execution amid concerns raised locally about recurring waterlogging issues.

The Minister called for expedited implementation of road connectivity works, especially those considered vital for public movement in the border belt. He sought regular progress updates and closer supervision at the ground level.

Mendhar, located in the Pir Panjal region along the Line of Control, has historically faced infrastructure gaps due to terrain and security constraints. Several sanctioned projects in the region remain under various stages of completion, with locals expecting tangible improvement in connectivity and civic facilities.

Further updates on physical progress and completion timelines are awaited. [KNT]
