Self-Styled ‘Darvesh’ Gulzar Peer Produced Before Budgam Court, Remand Extended
Budgam, June 1, KNT: A self-styled faith healer, Gulzar Bhat, alias Gulzar Peer, was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Budgam on Saturday in what police described as a precautionary move amid apprehensions of public anger. The court extended his judicial remand till June 5.
A police official associated with the investigation told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the accused was brought before Chief Judicial Magistrate Gowhar Majid Dalal early in the morning without prior public disclosure. He said the decision was taken in view of concerns that agitated people might attempt to attack the accused if his movement became known.
The official stated that the investigation is currently focused on Gulzar Bhat, with several alleged victims coming forward to record their statements. He added that once this phase of inquiry is completed, the probe will widen to examine the role of his close associates. According to police, several aides linked to the accused are absconding and efforts are underway to trace them.
Gulzar Bhat was arrested following allegations by multiple girls accusing him of sexual exploitation under the guise of faith healing. The case triggered widespread outrage in the area.
Meanwhile, counsel representing the accused has reportedly filed a bail application through post seeking his release. The matter is expected to come up for consideration in the coming days.
Further investigation is in progress. [KNT
