Alleged Liquor Trader Booked Under Public Safety Act in South Kashmir’s Kulgam

Kulgam, April 1, KNT: The district administration in south Kashmir’s Kulgam on Friday booked an alleged liquor trader under the Public Safety Act and shifted him to Kathua Jail, officials said.
Police said the action was taken against a resident of Khudwani Qaimoh area who had previously been arrested in connection with illegal liquor trade.
A police official identified the detainee as Javaid Ahmed Wani, son of Ghulam Hasan Wani, a resident of Khudwani in Qaimoh area of Kulgam district.
According to the official, Wani had earlier been arrested three times in the past for his alleged involvement in illegal liquor trade.
Police said he was recently arrested again following fresh allegations related to the illegal sale and distribution of liquor in the area.
Following his arrest, the district administration invoked the Public Safety Act against him, the official said.
The detention order was issued under order number DMK/PSA/2016 by the district administration.
After the detention order was executed, Wani was shifted to Kathua Jail on Friday, the police official said.
Officials said the Public Safety Act allows authorities to detain individuals for preventive purposes in cases where they are considered a threat to public order.
Police said the action was taken as part of efforts to curb illegal activities and maintain law and order in the district.
