New Delhi, March 9, KNT: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi visited the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi to offer condolences over the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, becoming one of the first BJP leaders to publicly express sympathy following the development.

Naqvi met the Iranian Ambassador during his visit and paid tribute to the late Iranian leader, conveying condolences to the people of Iran.

The visit comes amid global reactions following the reported assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with leaders and representatives from different countries expressing grief and calling for restraint.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Naqvi said he had come to pay respects and extend condolences on behalf of those mourning the loss.

“We came here to pay tribute to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Hazrat Ali Khamenei. We also met with the Iranian Ambassador. I offered my heartfelt tribute and condolences,” Naqvi said.

The BJP leader said India has historically advocated peace and dialogue as the path to resolving conflicts.

“India, the land of Buddha, has always been a supporter of peace. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also consistently said that only the path of peace can solve any problem,” he said.

Naqvi said war cannot provide lasting solutions to crises and urged efforts toward peace.

“War is not a solution. We pray that the nectar of peace emerges from this ocean of crisis as soon as possible,” he added.

The development comes at a time when diplomatic activity around the Iranian mission in New Delhi has increased following the death of the Iranian leader.

Earlier, political leaders and representatives from various organisations have also visited the Iranian Cultural Centre and Embassy to express solidarity and condolences.

Officials at the Iranian Embassy have been receiving delegations offering tributes and expressing sympathy with the people of Iran. [KNT]
