Tourists throng tourist places during Eid, boosting Kashmir’s hospitality sector

Srinagar, March 22, KNT: A surge of tourists was witnessed across Kashmir’s prime destinations during Eid, with Srinagar and Gulmarg recording high footfall, boosting the region’s tourism and hospitality sector.
The influx comes at a time when stakeholders in Kashmir’s tourism industry are seeking sustained recovery, making festive-driven travel a significant economic driver.
Hotels and guesthouses in Srinagar reported near-full occupancy, while Gulmarg saw heavy tourist movement, particularly around the Gondola area. Shikara rides on Dal Lake also witnessed increased demand as visitors sought traditional experiences.
Tourism officials said Eid holidays often attract both domestic and outstation travellers, with many combining leisure trips with festive celebrations. “We are seeing encouraging tourist numbers during Eid, which is a positive sign for the sector,” an official from the Tourism Department said.
Travel operators reported a rise in bookings over the past week, with flights operating at high capacity into Srinagar. Local businesses, including handicraft sellers and restaurant owners, also noted increased activity.
Visitors expressed satisfaction with the experience. “We planned our trip during Eid to see the celebrations along with the beauty of Kashmir. The atmosphere is lively,” said a tourist from Delhi.
The tourism sector remains a key economic pillar in Jammu and Kashmir, supporting thousands of livelihoods. Seasonal spikes such as Eid are seen as crucial for sustaining income for small businesses. [KNT]
