Kupwara, March 22, KNT: Police in north Kashmir’s Handwara have arrested several individuals after a video circulating on social media showed the alleged harassment and wrongful restraint of a person at a public park in Langate, officials said on Sunday.
The case has drawn attention as visuals of the incident spread online, prompting swift police action and raising concerns over public safety in recreational spaces.
According to officials, Jammu and Kashmir Police took cognizance of the video and registered a case under FIR No. 43/2026 at Police Station Handwara.
The FIR has been lodged under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 270, 352, 129, and 3(5), officials said.
Police said the accused persons involved in the incident have been identified and arrested.
“Handwara Police has taken cognizance of the matter, and a case has been registered. The accused persons have been identified and arrested,” an official said.
Further investigation into the incident is underway to ascertain the full sequence of events and any additional involvement, police added.
Local residents expressed concern over the incident, saying such behaviour in public places creates fear and discomfort. “Parks are meant for families and children. Such incidents should not happen,” said a resident of the area.
Officials reiterated that strict action would be taken against those found involved in unlawful activities, particularly in public spaces. [KNT]
