Srinagar, March 23, KNT: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo on Monday presided over a one-day Mega Job Fair at Kashmir Haat (Numaish Gah) Exhibition Ground, aimed at promoting employment and self-employment opportunities among youth in the district, officials said.

The event, organised by the Employment Department, witnessed participation from multiple stakeholders, including private companies and government agencies, creating a platform for direct engagement between job providers and job seekers.

The initiative assumes significance as authorities step up efforts to address unemployment and encourage entrepreneurship among youth in Srinagar.

According to officials, around 22 companies from sectors such as tourism, agriculture, horticulture, insurance, banking, automobile and hospitality participated in the fair, offering a range of job opportunities.

The job fair saw a strong response from young participants, many of whom had registered online in advance to take part in the recruitment drive.

Deputy Director Employment Srinagar, Shubi Tabasum, District Employment Officer and Career Counselling Officer, along with other senior officials, were also present at the event.

During the programme, the Deputy Commissioner inspected stalls set up by various government departments showcasing self-employment schemes and financial assistance programmes.

Officials said the stalls provided information on benefits, eligibility criteria and application procedures to help aspiring entrepreneurs explore available opportunities.

Addressing the gathering, Labroo said such job fairs play a crucial role in bridging the gap between employers and job seekers.

“These platforms create a direct interface between job providers and job seekers, enabling placements, selections and registration of unemployed youth with the Employment Department,” he said.

He also urged youth to avail credit-linked schemes under initiatives such as Mission YUVA, Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) and Jammu and Kashmir Competitiveness Improvement of Agriculture and Allied Sectors Project (JKCIP).

The Deputy Commissioner reiterated that the district administration remains committed to supporting entrepreneurship and facilitating employment opportunities through coordinated efforts of the Employment Department.

Officials said similar initiatives will continue in the future to strengthen livelihood opportunities and economic participation of youth in the district. [KNT]
