Jammu, March 29, KNT: The Jammu Marathon concluded on a high note on Sunday, with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha praising the event and stating that it will give a significant boost to tourism in the region.
Thousands of participants, including international runners, took part in the marathon, reflecting growing global interest in Jammu as a sporting and tourism destination.
The event assumes importance as authorities continue efforts to promote Jammu and Kashmir through sports and large-scale public events.
Addressing reporters, Manoj Sinha said more than 4,000 registrations were received for the marathon, out of which over 3,000 participants actively took part in different race categories.
Sinha said the concept of organizing an international marathon in Jammu was conceived in 2024 and has since been held annually.
“This will give a boost to tourism in Jammu and showcase the region’s progress,” Sinha said.
He added that participation from international runners indicates increasing confidence and interest in Jammu as a destination for global sporting events.
The marathon witnessed enthusiastic participation from athletes across various age groups, along with local residents who turned up in large numbers to cheer the runners.
Officials said arrangements were made to ensure smooth conduct of the event, including route management, medical support and security measures.
Participants described the marathon as well-organized and praised the scenic route and public support along the course.
“It was a great experience running here. The atmosphere and support from locals were amazing,” said one participant.
Authorities said such events are part of a broader strategy to position Jammu as a hub for sports tourism and to encourage youth participation in fitness activities.
The annual marathon is expected to grow further in scale in the coming years, officials added. [KNT]
