New Delhi, April 1, KNT: Around 126 Indian students remain stranded at border points in Iran, facing delays and uncertainty in crossing into neighbouring countries, representatives said.
Of them, 84 students are currently stuck at the Iran-Azerbaijan border in Astara, where authorities are allowing only about 10 students per day to cross, significantly slowing evacuation efforts.
The situation is significant as it highlights ongoing logistical challenges faced by Indian nationals attempting to exit the region amid prevailing conditions.
The remaining students are reported to be at the Iran-Armenia border, where their travel tickets have been repeatedly cancelled, further delaying their movement.
Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, Vice President of the All India Medical Students Association, said the students are anxious and uncertain about their situation.
“Their parents are extremely worried, and the students themselves are facing stress due to the delays,” he said.
He urged the Indian Embassy in Iran to intervene urgently and ensure safe passage for all stranded students.
Khan said similar evacuation efforts had earlier facilitated the movement of 977 Indian nationals through Armenia, and called for similar arrangements to be extended to those still stranded.
There was no immediate official response from the Indian Embassy regarding the current situation.
The issue comes amid heightened concerns over the safety and evacuation of foreign nationals in the region.
Families of the stranded students have appealed for swift action to ensure their safe return. [KNT]
