J&K Government Sanctions 64 Positions to Strengthen Bone and Joint Hospital Services

Srinagar, April 5, KNT: Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo on Sunday announced that the government has sanctioned the creation of 64 additional posts for the Bone and Joint (B&J) Hospital in Srinagar, enabling the newly constructed additional block to become fully operational.
The decision is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen specialized healthcare services and improve delivery of medical care across the region, the minister said.
The additional block at the hospital, with a capacity of 120 beds, was constructed on priority and dedicated to public service under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, she said.
The minister noted that medical services in the new block had initially been managed through internal arrangements and rational deployment of existing manpower to ensure continuity of patient care.
Recognizing the increasing patient load and need for specialized staffing, the Health and Medical Education Department conducted an assessment of manpower requirements, leading to the proposal for additional posts.
The Council of Ministers, headed by Omar Abdullah, approved the creation of 64 posts across multiple categories aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and streamlining service delivery at the hospital.
“This initiative reflects the Government’s commitment not only towards creation of modern healthcare infrastructure but also towards ensuring that such facilities are adequately staffed, fully functional and accessible to the public,” Itoo said.
The sanctioned positions include Senior Residents in Orthopaedics, Medicine, Surgery, Radiology and Microbiology, along with Resident Medical Officers, Casualty Medical Officers, nursing staff, technicians, administrative personnel and other support staff essential for efficient functioning.
The minister emphasized that strengthening specialized institutions such as the Bone and Joint Hospital is vital for improving trauma care, orthopaedic treatment, and emergency response services across the Kashmir division.
She added that the government remains focused on enhancing healthcare accessibility through expansion of infrastructure, augmentation of manpower, and improvement in service delivery mechanisms. [KNT]
