Kulgam, April 12, KNT: Kulgam Police on Sunday combined a local sports event with an anti-drug outreach initiative as the Ramzan Cup cricket tournament concluded at Noonmai Playground in Behibagh, where Valley Hunters Khujpora defeated Tariq Sports Matipora in the final.
The event highlighted the police’s ongoing efforts to engage youth through sports while simultaneously promoting awareness against drug abuse, aligning with broader campaigns such as Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyaan.
According to officials, the final match drew participation and attendance from local youth, with players showcasing competitive spirit in what was described as a closely contested match. Valley Hunters Khujpora emerged as champions after defeating Tariq Sports Matipora.
During the event, DySP Hatipora Rajat Chib and SHO Behibagh Insp. Muhsin Ahmad Dar interacted with participants and spectators, encouraging young people to adopt healthy lifestyles through sports and constructive activities.
The outreach was conducted under the direction of SSP Kulgam Sh. Anayat Ali Choudhary (IPS), officials said.
Officers emphasized the importance of staying away from drugs and highlighted sports as a positive alternative for youth engagement. They urged participants to focus on fitness, discipline, and community development.
The initiative reflects a broader policing approach that combines law enforcement with community engagement, particularly targeting younger populations vulnerable to substance abuse.
Officials said such events are aimed at strengthening police-public relations while creating awareness about social issues. The use of sports platforms for messaging is seen as an effort to connect with youth in an accessible and constructive manner.
