Ganderbal, April 20, KNT: The Srinagar–Ladakh highway was reopened for one-way movement of passenger vehicles on Monday after remaining closed for four days due to snowfall and adverse weather conditions.
Authorities allowed movement of passenger vehicles from Minimarg towards Sonamarg following improvement in weather and partial road clearance at Zojila.
The highway had been shut after fresh snowfall at Zojila and heavy rainfall disrupted traffic, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded along the route.
The reopening marks a partial restoration of connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh, though movement remains regulated.
A Traffic Police official said that more than 500 goods and passenger vehicles are still stranded in Sonamarg, awaiting clearance for onward movement.
He said they are monitoring road conditions and are expected to regulate traffic based on safety assessments and further weather updates. [KNT]
