New Delhi, April 23, KNT: A Delhi court on Thursday remanded political consultancy firm I-PAC co-founder and director Vinesh Chandel to 14-day judicial custody in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged coal scam in West Bengal.

The order came during proceedings in a case being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is probing alleged financial irregularities tied to coal-related operations in the state.

Chandel was produced before the court following the expiry of his previous custody, after which the court ordered his judicial remand for a period of 14 days.

The case forms part of a broader investigation into alleged money laundering linked to coal mining activities in West Bengal, in which multiple individuals are under scrutiny.

The ED case is understood to involve financial transactions suspected to be proceeds of crime, although specific details pertaining to Chandel’s alleged role were not immediately outlined in court.

The court’s decision to send Chandel to judicial custody indicates that the investigation has moved beyond initial custodial interrogation, with further proceedings expected in the coming days. [KNT]
