Kolkata, April 23, KNT: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said early polling trends in the first phase of the assembly elections indicate that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is already in a position to win.

Addressing a rally in the Bow Bazar area of Kolkata, Banerjee projected confidence in her party’s performance, citing voter response during the ongoing polling process.

“From my understanding of people’s mind, we are already in a position to win given the polling held so far today,” she said.

The TMC supremo also expanded her remarks to the national political landscape, stating that her objective extends beyond the state election outcome.

“I am not interested in any post, I don’t want the chair. I only want the end of BJP government in Delhi,” Banerjee said, adding that she would take along opposition parties in that effort after the elections.

Polling in the first phase covered 152 of the 294 assembly constituencies in the state. According to available data, a voter turnout of 89.93% was recorded till 5 p.m., indicating strong participation.

The next phase of polling is scheduled for April 29, while counting of votes will take place on May 4.

The high turnout and strong political messaging from key leaders underline the significance of the election, which is being closely watched for both state and national implications. [KNT]
