 Leopard Cub Injured After Attack by Locals, Shifted to Hokersar for Treatment

Budgam, April 26, KNT: A leopard cub was critically injured after being attacked by locals in Kralnewa area of Khansahib in Budgam district, prompting wildlife authorities to launch a response and initiate action against those involved.

Following information from police, a team from the Wildlife Department reached the spot, rescued the injured cub, and shifted it for medical examination and treatment. The animal has been moved to the Wildlife Rescue Centre at Hokersar for specialized care.

Block Officer Wildlife Budgam, Bashir Ahmad told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that strict action will be taken against individuals involved in injuring the animal, adding that such incidents violate wildlife protection laws.

He urged the public to avoid confronting or attacking wild animals and instead inform the Wildlife Department to enable timely rescue and safe handling.

The officer also appealed for cooperation from residents in protecting wildlife and maintaining ecological balance, stressing the need for responsible response in human-wildlife encounters. [KNT]
