Jammu, April 28: Jammu Rural Police on Tuesday said that it foiled an attempt to smuggle cattle, rescuing 18 animals and arresting two accused in the Manwal area.

Acting on credible information about the illegal transportation of cattle, a police team from Police Post Manwal, under Police Station Jhajjar Kotli, set up a checkpoint in the Nadhal area and began inspecting vehicles.

During checking, police intercepted two canter load carrier vehicles bearing registration numbers JK02DB-5199 and PB08FK-5663. On inspection, a total of 18 cattle were found in extremely poor condition inside the vehicles. Officials said the animals had been tightly crammed and bound with ropes, and were being transported without permission from any competent authority.

Police immediately rescued the cattle and seized both vehicles. The two drivers were arrested on the spot.

In this regard, FIR No. 49/2026 and FIR No. 50/2026 have been registered at Police Station Jhajjar Kotli. The accused have been booked under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
