SIT Constituted After Minor Girl’s Body Recovered in Budgam

Budgam, May 24, KNT: Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) after a minor girl, who had gone missing from her residence in Budgam district, was found dead near her home, officials said on Sunday.

According to police, information regarding the disappearance of the 12-year-old girl was received at Police Station Budgam at around 10 pm on May 23 after she reportedly went missing from her residence during the evening hours.

Acting on the complaint, police registered FIR No. 139/2026 under relevant provisions of law and immediately launched a search operation.

Officials said that during the early morning hours on Sunday, the body of the minor girl was recovered at a short distance from her residence, following which medico-legal and investigative procedures were initiated.

Police said a Special Investigation Team has been constituted under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Budgam, Sajad Ahmad, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The investigation shall be carried out in a fair, transparent and professional manner,” police said, adding that all possible angles are being examined.

In view of the sensitivity of the case, Budgam Police issued a public advisory urging media organizations and members of the public not to reveal the identity, photographs or any identifying details of the minor victim, stating that disclosure of such information is prohibited under law.

Police also appealed to the public and social media users to refrain from circulating rumours or unverified information, warning that such acts could hamper investigation and cause distress.
