Para Commandos, Choppers Intensify Search as Rajouri Forest Operation Continues
Rajouri, May 29, KNT: Even after security forces established contact with militants multiple times and exchanges of fire were reported, the militants remained untraced as a massive joint operation in the forest areas of Rajouri district entered its seventh day on Friday.
The operation, codenamed Operation Sheruwali, is underway in the dense forest stretches of Gambhir Mughlan and Dorimal in the Manjakote sector following intelligence inputs about the presence of militants hiding in the area.
Officials said the search operation has intensified with para commandos deployed in the rugged terrain, helicopters conducting aerial surveillance, and sniffer dogs pressed into service to track movement inside the thick forest cover.
Heavy firing and shelling were reported in the Dorimal forest area as security forces tightened the cordon around suspected hideouts.
The joint operation involving the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has witnessed large-scale deployment with additional reinforcements and logistical support rushed to the area.
Officials said efforts were focused on maintaining a strong cordon and blocking possible escape routes through the dense forests.
Security forces continued deep search and combing operations under heightened surveillance, with officials maintaining that every effort was underway to trace the hiding militants.
The entire forest belt remained under strict security watch as the operation continued for the seventh consecutive day. [KNT]
